The “Mascareri”, as the maskmakers were called, have practised their trade diffusely in the historical centre of Venice since 1436.
Nowadays in Venice there are many masks shops.
There are actually a few of them that can really be proud of being “mask makers” in the meaning of projecting and making masks by themselves from the idea to the realization in all the different working processes.
In the wake of this tradition, in Calle dei Nomboli, near San Tomà , opposite the house in which Carlo Goldoni was born, in his “Tragicomica” workshop, Gualtiero Dall’Osto and his assistants continue and take care of this ancient art of mask-making.
